Where would we be without websites to surf and MSN? Bored, bored, bored!
But are you sure you’re cybersavvy? Get all the info you need to surf safely right here!
Always ask your folks’ permission before registering onto a site.
Once you’ve signed up NEVER give away your personal info like your name, phone number, home or email addresses or the location of your school when you’re chatting.
To be super-safe, use a nickname while you’re online. It’ll help keep your identity private.
Change your passwords regularly to keep your info as private and protected as poss.
Think carefully before answering a private message. It’s easier to ignore people or back out of an awkward conversation if you’re part of a larger group.
Use buddy lists. These online address books mean you can remember all your friends, see who’s online and ‘ban’, ‘ignore’ or ‘remove’ people if they say anything that makes you feel uneasy.
Never agree to meet anyone you’ve ‘spoken to’ on the internet without taking an adult along with you for the first time.
If anyone says anything that worries or upsets you, report your fears to the moderator or the host immediately. You’ll find out who that is through the ‘contact us’ link.
If you’re worried tell an adult. Let them know which site you were on and what was said. They’ll be able to take further action if necessary.
